Chrouy Chongar Or Chongkoh
Chong Koh It is a village on the Riverbank East of Phnom Penh, we travel along the Chroy Changva Bridge, if near the Royal Palace we can cross by fairy.
The people here are fishing, they live on the water, make boats and park their houses along the river because they have no land. There is no school for children in the village, if the child wants to get an education, they have to go to another village.
It is very difficult for them to live like this because there is no clean water and electricity to use even in the capital. There are about 100 families living here under the control of the elders or village chiefs, but the permanent residents are only 20 families, and some are from other provinces to come. Fishing is on the rise, despite restrictions imposed by the authorities or the elders in charge.
However, the Royal Government of Cambodia does not allow this kind of living and is taking measures to get them to leave for the reason that it affects the beauty and the environment.
In 2021, the Capital Hall issued a circular stating that all residents living along the riverbanks in Phnom Penh (Chbar Ampov commune chief, Chroy Changva commune, Prek Ta Sek commune, Chrang Chamres commune, Svay Pak commune ...) must relocate. If anyone does not comply with this directive, the Capital Hall has a role to play.
With no choice, they had to leave within a week, with City Hall giving them the opportunity to move to a new location.
